All faculties: their starting salary is based on a defined formula, defined in the collective agreement. OpsEU will determine the amount of the deduction for union dues and the timing will depend on a number of factors, including the implementation of a collective agreement. We advise staff when we have been informed of these details by OPSEU. The Council confirmed that 35.2 per cent of the workers involved signed cards. We also received the advice of the College Employer Council that the majority voted in favour of MEMBERSHIP of OPSEU and that OPSEU is now officially recognized as a representative of part-time support staff at Ontario colleges. After certification, the union submits in writing to the College Employer Council, which represents the 24 Ontario Colleges, the negotiation of the first collective agreement. A collective agreement is a contract that describes the working conditions of all employees. OPSEU will inform the College Employer Council, which represents the 24 Ontario Colleges, of a written communication on the negotiation of the first contract/first agreement. The parties will enter into negotiations within 60 days of receiving the written notification. The College Employees Council (CEC) and the Ontario Public Service Workers Union (OPSEU) have entered into a two-year interim collective agreement for part-time workers. As you may recall, on May 31, 2016, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) applied to the Labour Council of Ontario to become the union for all part-time support employees (including student staff) in the Ontario College system. The union has the right to strike if negotiations between the college and the union on the terms of employment are inconclusive. Universities are committed to cooperating with the union to conclude these negotiations and avoid a work stoppage. The site receives seniority lists from the human resources department once a year, as is the case with our collective agreement of ministers. These lists are shared with the annual local at the end of January, and … The existing full-time staff collective agreement does not apply to part-time staff and a separate collective agreement must therefore be negotiated. This means that OPSEU has the exclusive right to represent all part-time support staff, including students, at All 24 Ontario colleges when negotiating the working conditions of these employees. The vote took place in universities in June 2016. After the vote, the ballot boxes were placed under seal because Ontario law stipulates that at least 35 per cent of the workers involved must have signed union cards to allow for a certification vote. Since then, the Labour Council has found that the threshold has been reached.
